The government will soon propose to issue smart cards to help migrant Indian laborers in distress. The government is likely to issue ordinance to amend the citizenship act to provide dual citizenship to PIO’s. The cabinet has already issued an ordinance and the law ministry is apparently vetting it. Also the government is working on the two pronged strategy- Preventive and curative to safeguard the interest of Indian women planning to marry or already married to NRI’s “We will introducing an electronic emigration card in a months time to protect vulnerable workers from exploitation by unscrupulous agents, employers and emigration staff and eliminate corruption in the systems,” says Mr Jagdish Tytler, Indian affairs minister.
